Harry Potter is an eleven-year-old wizard who doesn't know that he is a wizard. He lives with his miserable aunt and uncle Dursley and their son Dudley, who bullies Harry. One day he is greeted by a lovable giant and put into Hogwarts, the school for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry finds himself drawn deeply inside a mystical world he never knew existed but now loves. Everything changes for him when the problems with the teacher Professor Snape and his enemy Draco Malfoy and Lord Voldemort and his supporters start.

At the end of the terrible summer holidays really looking forward to going back to Hogwarts Harry is warned by Dobby, a house-elf and strange impish creature, not to go back to Hogwarts if he wants to stay alive, because disaster will strike. But he returns. He gets a new stuck-up professor, Gilderoy Lockheart, and he and his friends get to know a spirit named Moaning Myrtle, who haunts the girls' toilets. The troubles start as a monster from the Chamber of Secrets breaks out and lives in the school and people are changed to stones .

The 'murderer' of thirteen people - Sirius Black - has escaped from the fortress of Azkaban and everybody says he is hunting Harry for revenge for defeating Lord Voldemort. Black is said to be the heir apparent to the Dark Lord Voldemort. Harry is not safe, not even within the walls of his magical school, surrounded by his friends. Black is later at Hogwarts and he tells Harry that he is his godfather and to be careful because of a traitor and possible animagis.

Harry is in his fourth year and he takes part in the Triwizard Tournament even though he is not allowed to, because he is only fourteen and not seventeen. Being fourteen, Harry becomes interested in girls - one in particular. He gets in big danger because of the return of Lord Voldemort, for which his supporters and servants prepare. Harry is able to prevent it but the prize is the life of one of his friends.
